Leif Erikson Drive, also known as Leif Erikson Trail or Leif Erikson Road, is well maintained. The 11.2-mile trail is paved with gravel, but during heavy rain storms it can become muddy. Because Leif Erikson Drive serves as a fire and service road, the trail is wide, but except for the occasional service truck, no motor vehicles are allowed on the trail.
The trail was built in 1916 as Hillside Dr, but winter mudslides forced the eventual abandonment of the road project.
